Chris Chau from Chester has won the Green Expo Net Zero category of the Photographer of the Year for 2026 with his stunning twilight photo.
The magic hour contrast between the historic lighthouse and modern wind energy infrastructure highlights the coexistence of heritage and innovation in the region, showing how tradition and clean energy progress can exist side by side. The wind turbines demonstrate sustainable power generation, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering carbon emissions. Their integration into the coastal landscape reflects how clean energy can be part of natural environments without disrupting them. The lighthouse symbolises direction and resilience, guiding the transition towards a low-carbon future.
Judges’ commented: “In the foreground a monument to our earlier efforts to warn of nature’s dangers to our human endeavours. In the background, a testament to our ability to harness nature’s resources in a sustainable way. A strong visual appeal, great shot and excellent use of light. Effective symbolism of heritage and clean energy working together. Clear, accessible environmental message. I would quite happy have this on my wall at home, it looks great!”
