Bren Bikes has won an award from Green Expo for Community Engagement. The bike centre off Newton Lane in Chester not only re-recycles bikes but is a small local non-profit social enterprise with a significant sustainability impact. It provides an centre and meet point for bike clubs and the community at the repair shop and cafe there. At the end of 2024 they sold 1049 refurbished bikes, conducted 1567 services, and supported 45 beneficiaries on placement.
Judges added; “Bren Bikes also provides volunteering opportunities for people to support the placements alongside its staff, with consequent well-being benefits and personal development for those individuals. Bren Bikes, with its Brengineers, actively addresses all three aspects of sustainability – environmental, social, and economic.”
