A survey has been running over the last 6 months to find out what residents and visitors to Chester want from Green Expo and for the restoration of Hydro Hub, the old hydroelectric building on the River Dee on Castle Drive by the Old Dee Bridge.
The findings show that 84% of respondents want to know more about climate change issues, net zero and how it applies to them. 59% said they ‘Don’t know enough about climate change and Net Zero’ and 89% ‘Don’t know enough about local efforts and activities on climate change and Net Zero’.
Hydro Hub could also offer a community space for residents, schools, and visitors to find out more about the kind of job opportunities that will be on offer, now the Chester area has been chosen to be one of the first net zero industrial clusters in the UK.
Members of the public were given an opportunity to voice their opinions on what they would like to see in the proposed Hydro Hub building, 82% revealed they would like a visitor centre focused on the River Dee, hydro power and alternative energy sources. 72% said it should have an educational purpose with 68% suggesting it should have interactive displays for both adults and children. 60% suggested they would like a glass rooftop daytime with an overwhelming 87% wanting Hydro Hub to generate its own, possibly more, power for the City. 90% of survey respondents would visit Hydro Hub.
