Glyn Akroyd has won the Natural world’s resilience category of the Green Expo Professional Photographer of the Year for 2026. His photo ‘Waiting For The Sun’ was taken at Deeside Industrial Park, North Wales when he was out on a mid-March bike ride, rattling across the boardwalk at Burton Marsh and under the flyover of Weighbridge Road.
He said; “The flyover walls are interestingly geometric, which is what initially attracted my attention. At first glance the plant protruding from the gap in the cladding looks no more than a collection of dead twigs but closer inspection reveals numerous buds awaiting the warmth of Spring before bursting into life. Another example of the ability of life to emerge from the most unlikely location.”
The judges added; “A beautiful shot well seen, simple but highly effective and which answers the brief. A perfect example of nature’s ability to adapt and thrive despite man’s plans for order with an extraordinarily complementary graphic fashion. It demonstrates resilience with a strong composition and interpretation of the theme.”
